I have a 1991 Johnson 150 that I bought brand new. First time out this year it wouldn't start. Checked for spark and no spark. I carry a spare power pac as I have had some problems in the past with them. Installed spare and it fired right up and ran great. I ordered a new spare power pac from CDI electronics and received it. The instructions say to not use this power pac with a black sleeved stator from a 1991-1992 model engine. I believe I still have the origional stator. The spare power pac I installed was bought new around 1998 and was black. The new CDI power pac is blue. My question is do I need to buy the stator recommended by CDI or will their power pac work with my origional stator?
