"I was looking at buying a 2.3 ford motor in a 17 ft ski boat is this A 120 HP AND ARE THEY VERY RELIABLE , do they have much power, is there something to look out for on these engines"

"mine is a 91 128 hp/. my motor is solid, its the outdrives that could be problematic. if you dont oerload the boat its not bad, 36 to 40, by myself. 30 to 35 with 4 to 5 people, once it [planes out/ I changed to an electronic ignition. Knowing what I know now, i would stay away from that combination if I had to do it again. But i still have my boat and hae way more into it than it is worth, so I have to keep it."

"Hey Chief, aren't you the guy complaining about the OMC bashing on another site? If you're being serious, it's hypocritical. If you're being sarcastic it's counterproductive and disrespectful to the poster, who I believe is looking for a serious and intelligent answer."

"First off the 2.3 is a motor you can't find parts for.

Second i would not advise anyone to buy a omc product with no support.

Third if he already had it i would come over if he was within 50 miles of me and show him how to fix it if he already had it that is.

But i wouldn't recommend anyone to buy one.

There is a guy down the road from me with a 2.3 cobra wants 2500.00 for it, with a trailer thats 2200.00 to much trailer is worth something.

I have a stringer omc. But if someone owned a volvo and someone told you don't buy a volvo would that be a bad thing?"

"I have a 17' VIP with a 2.3 ford motor, apart form a few minor electrical problems this boat has worked well for me... we have given it hell with a tube behind it and have no complaints at all... except we overloaded the boat/tube... lol"

"Funny but i can't find th

"Funny but i can't find that 91' had a 2.3 made for omc but they list a 3.0 for 91'

It appears they made the 2.3 from 87' to 90'

91' they list the 3.0.

Also they list the manifold lets say for 600.00 but also n/a.

Riser 319.00 but call first. That means they don't have it.

It's not unusual for boats to have a motor from the year before in it. Maybe 2 years before the boat was made it's what they had in stock.

So actually omc used that ford 2.3 motor for 3 years, compared to almost 40 years for the 3.0.

And the 3.0 is still being made for use in boats.

The 3.0 was never used in autos.

Hmmmm 3.0 0r 2.5 chevy motor say for the omc a riser is what under a 100 bucks. A mani what under 300 bucks.

Just a few parts i know but i would be interested to know what parts for the 2.3 are really available.

And if someone thinks i'm bashing omc they would be wrong.

I like my stringer i'm keeping my stringer. And i horde parts for my stringer.

But would i advise someone to buy a stringer no."
