1991 9.9hp Johnson Motor Mount Deterioration

My mechanic says the rubber grommets that secure the motor to the housing have deteriorated, and it's going to be around $350 to repair. They said that since they are in the way of the exhaust, that the gas and oil from the exhaust tend to deteriorate them. Has anyone heard of this happening, or are they blowin smoke up my ***?

The mechanic is correct here.------The powerhead has to be removed for inspection.-----------Maybe the bolts have come loose.---------If your estimate includes new mounts it is likely a good deal.

Would advice to put on the mounts and rubber block used on the Long Shaft models, hold up better, but slightly harder.
