1991 4.3 L 431 DP Timing issue

Hi new guy here, This is a great forum. I have a 1991 22' Larson powered by a 4.3 DP w/Qjet carb, 205 hp. The origional distributor, Prestolite IUD 7601 9 A is toast. I have ordered a Mallory YLM700AV. Mallory says this distributor is set for 24 deg all in at 3200. My owners manual says, set the initial at 8 deg BTDC, which will give me 32 deg total advance with the Mallory. Reading other threads in this forum, this could be 10 deg to much with this combination. What to do. Leave the initial set a 8 deg and recurve the Mallory, take a little out of the initial and the Mallory, take all out of initial. I have not been able to find the factory specification for my engine total advance. If anyone knows that number I would appreciate it. All advise and comments are greatly appreciated.

Re: 431 DP Timing issue

You are wise for asking!
The 4.3 will not take the same curve/limit as the 5.0L or 5.7L will.
So see your 4.3L OEM specs and recurve for 4.3L , set TA as per OEM.
We won't damage an engine if BASE is off some, but we WILL damage Marine engine if TA is too high/too early!
