"Guys,
By way of follow up on my post a few days ago. It appears that my problem is still related to the switch box on my 91 115 hp Mariner. I was beginning to think it may have been related to the trigger and I had asked for info about that part since this web site does not show a trigger for my specific motor.

Before replacing additional expensive parts I did a little trouble shooting 101 by going back to my original (from the factory) switch box. With the new replacement parts installed it had corrected my original complaint of poor idle but I could not reach full engine speed (missing on one cylinder at high speed) once I reinstalled the orginal switch box my primary issue reappeared in the form of poor idle. so it appears that I have installed 2 defective switch boxes.

I am currently waiting the arrival of my 3rd switch box, but it is coming from a different source (BTW, the first ones did not come from this web site).

I will try to let you guys know if I have corrected my problem. In the mean time...Any other "don't forget to check the..." kind of suggestions?

Thanks for your help"

"Ken,

The manufacturer suggests replacing the entire ignition system at once. A damaged switchbox can affect the trigger or stator also. It can be very difficult to actually figure out which component failed first.

"ken, This ignition is fairly easy to trouble shoot with a dva meter. you can purchase one from napa auto parts. the stator has two windings one for high speed and another for low or idle. If the motor idles good but acts up when trying to come up on plain it could be the high speed stator coil. a dva meter will check all components. if you have one plug not fireing it will be a switch box usually. some motors have a idle stabilizer that causes some problems, but i don't think this motor has one."
