My 1991 Mariner

"Gentlemen,

My 1991 Mariner 115 HP has had idle issues that were corrected by replacing the switchbox. Now, I can not get over 3200 RPM wide open. We replaced the replacement switch box to eliminate that as an issue and she actually runs worse at high speed. Prior to changing the first switchbox I could run fine at high speed. It now idles perfect but struggles to get up on plane and is definitely missing at high speed under load (may be missing on as many as 2 cylinders at high speed). Remember my initial complaint was poor idle which has been corrected. Yes, the wiring, coils, plugs, compresion and plug wires seem to be fine. I felt like it must be a sypathetic failure that was a result of the switch box failing that may have caused the trigger to now be bad (or it may have been giving trouble already, just not to this level). My problem is that I have checked this web site's parts listing and find no listing for a trigger to fit my engine...
First, Am I thinking the right direction for a resolution to my problem and Second, why do I not find a listing for a trigger for my motor?

Lastly, if I have made some stupid mistake during this repair... don't be afraid to say so. It's ok if I have made a mistake, I will learn from it. I only want to get my motor back up to par

Thanks"

"did you fully test all compon

"did you fully test all components before starting changing parts? they must all work together, and if you don't find the problem, you will just ruin more parts. also post your serial number. merc. and mariner use this for I.D. not model years."

"Ken, you really need to test

"Ken, you really need to test the whole ignition system. Mercs have a 2 stage stator, windings for low speed and then for high. So your problem could be originating there, but test everything.

You don't want to swap out a trigger and then find it was in fact the stator, or simply a bad coil..."

"Thanks guys. I have had some

"Thanks guys. I have had someone helping me on this one and they have supposedly checked the various components. I will have to get the Serial number and drop another message with that specific info. My stator failed less than 100 engine hours ago so that was changed at that time. Of course, I realize that it could have failed again.....
I was not aware of the high/low speed situation on the stator. I am learning QUICKLY about mechanics and electronics on this motor LOL

thanks again... I will post the Ser. # shortly"
