"I was having trouble with this switch causing the engine to stall at speed, so I just disconnected it intending to deal with it when I haul out at the end of this month. One mechanic says no problem, just haul it out if it starts to shift hard. Another mechanic says don't shift at all - haul it out now and replace the lower shift cable. Any opinions? It's working fine at the moment."

"In the Cobra outdrives,the shift interupter allows the engine to drop to a lower rpm so that the clutch dog engages, if you take the interupter out of the picture then you are asking for premature wear and eventual failure of the clutch dog in the form of losing prop drive caused by the hard shifting that results from the interupter not working. All this leads to replacing the lower unit or the gears and clutch dog. hope this helps."
