"Well, I learned something new today comparing the models. I knew that in late 1994 Merc undertook a redesign of most of their line. On the smaller outboards there were some minor design changes which are easy to adapt.
What I didn't know was they completely changed the block on the 75/90 horse models. Your original motor has a 71 cu in block, the 95 on models have an 84.6 cu in block. That is significant in terms of exhaust, carbs just to name two of the majors.
Having said that though, they maintained the same driveshaft, so the lower end will still mate up to the newer blocks - but would suspect you would require an entire powerhead, plus the the exhaust plate. The shift-shaft also changed and can't tell if you could retro-fit.
My initial impression is, it could be done - but alot of horsing around and quite a few parts to change to make it work.
What's the problem with the 1 cylinder on your engine? A rebuild may be the better way to go. Just did a total rebuild on a Force 90 for 550 bucks (free labour though)
And that was boring all 3 cylinders (50 bucks a pop), new pistons, rings, rods, bearings, gaskets = almost a brand new motor...."
