1990 mercruiser 4.6 liter won't start.

Could use some help here. I have a 1990 glastron with a 4.6 liter
Mercruiser that will not start with the key. But will start
And run by jumping the syliniod. I have replaced the ignition
And that did nothing. What else would cause this problem?

jumping what solenoid, the slave or the main? What is the 4.6 L motor? "I have replaced the ignition

What part of the ign system did you replace?

Sorry meant to say 4.3 liter. I believe its the starting soleniod. And it was the key ignition that I replaced.

1 starting at the key switch, check for power on the purple wire with the key in the "on" position
2 go to the + side of the coil and check for12v
3 go to the slave solenoid and short the 2 large lugs, starter should spin
power from the key goes to the slave ,witch in turn power the main solenoid on the starter
