1990 Mariner Horn sounding

Ok the horn starts sounding wh

Ok the horn starts sounding when my wife puts it into gear but once it starts it wont stop. She does so very slowly but I"m working on the assumption that thats a coincidence. The oil level indicator is disconnected. The impeller and thermostat have been checked and are ok. When the horn is sounding I could sit a baby on the engine so it's not hot at all. If engine is off but key is on the horn continues.

According to the mechanic that just saw it but could not get the horn to sound said there is no alarm for for the oil pump only for oil level and heat on this model/year.

We thought maybe it was a loose battery cable but they have been tightened.

Any ideas?
 
60hp and the alarm is constant

60hp and the alarm is constant and the alarm sounded any time the key was on even when I got home a 30 minute drive. But went out today and no alarm. Starting to sound like temp sending unit. Any other ideas.

Solution found. The engine ha

Solution found. The engine has a horn distinction module that is known to go bad. I unplugged the temp sending unit and that did not stop the horn. I unplugged the module that tells the system to either beep steady or beep constant and the horn stopped. Mechanic said if I wasn't go to re-hook up the oil level unit that I don't need the module that says to beep or send steady horn. Now all I have to do is figure out how to hook back up the temp sending unit. Mech said I should be able to just have that as a direct line to the horn and it should work.

don't know the official name of what I'm calling the distinction unit. Mine was located in the engine area. The temp sending unit is located on the head itself (a little wire running into the cylinder block.
