I am putting this unit togeth

I am putting this unit together and the spec sheet I have does not depict what I have. My sheet doesn't show the large snap rings but the unit has 2. Can anyone advise if the plate that the bearing housing bolts to goes between these snap rings?

Also what is the shift rod adjustment for this unit? I didn't take it apart. Where is a good source for snap ring pliers for this unit.

"Tommy.... I don't have the measurement for the 1990 200hp but unless it was changed between 1988 and 1990, it would be:

200, 225hp Loop Charged = (L) 21-15/16" - - (XL) 26-15/16" plus/minus 1/32" Have the shift rod on these engines in neutral and facing forward.

The retaining plate with the four threaded holes is to be installed before any of the snap rings are installed ie the retaining plate is simply laid in with the reverse gear and its related bearing & thrust washer... then the two snap rings are installed.

Try Matco Tools for the snap ring pliers. If no luck, I have a pair for sale ($42.00). ([email protected])

" Thanks for the help Joe. I will try to find a MATCO dealer first, if I don't have any luck I'll e-mail you. Do you take credit cards or how would we make a deal on your pliers?

Thanks again, I'll be in touch.

" I forgot to ask another question. Should there be a thrust washer on the front of the reverse gear or does it use ride against the shaft? I didn't disassemble this unit, it was tore down in a box when I got it.

Thanks again.

It sounds like you;'re at

It sounds like you;'re attempting to reassemble that unit without a parts or service manual to guide you. I'll send a couple pages of of the parts manual via e-mail.

Also.... That driveshaft nut must absolutely be torqued to OMC's specifications. Check with any dealership for the correct torque. I don't have that book in front of me.
