I have a 1990 60 hp evinrude outboard I purchased a new Teleflex tach and wired as per instructions I think. but the tach will not read. I wired the purple wire from the switch to the ign pole. the black wire I ran to the ground block and the grnd pole on tach, I then ran the gray wire to the gray wire on the motor that runs to the pole there. How ever I do not know how many poles my motor has to set the tach . the tach is marked 6, c6, c3, and3 I have at one time or another tried all of them with no result can someone out there help me give me some advice thanks wrhous

The Purple wire should be attached to the "A" (accessory) terminal of the ignition switch so that voltage (12v) is applied to the tachometer only when the key is turned to the RUN or START position.

The tachometer should be set to the #6 position as the tachometer operates off of the engine's six (6) pulse charging system.

The tachometer needle should drop to zero when the key is turned on if it is wired correctly.
