We are experiencing loss of forward motion at about half throttle. It appears to be a cavitation problem. We have a 16 ft. pontoon with 1990 Evinrude 110 hp with 13 3/8 x 17 three blade prop.
Any ideas on how to fix?

"It sounds like your prop hub

"It sounds like your prop hub is spun, carbs, timing, how trim/tilt set, type of prop, fuel pump, air in fuel lines, water in fuel. id start with those! cavation is caused by not having the low unit deep enough in the water anti cavation plate helps keep water on the blades as they spin that resistance must be present to keep engine from over revving"

If the prop has a spun hub it

If the prop has a spun hub it will be evident at hole shot as this is when the most load is on the prop...as the hull is on the plane it is rising higher out of the water and it is possible the engine is too high.

"Make sure the prop is deep enough in the water. Some pontoon boats like a little negative trim. Try moving the trim pin in a notch if possible. If not, a cupped prop can stay hooked up a little better than a standard one. 17 sounds like a lot of pitch for a tooner. Does the boat really go 40+ MPH? Did something change to bring this on?

Sometimes a gearcase will jump out of gear at high power, but it will usually catch the clutch dog the next time around resulting in a bang and a sensation like one hit a submerged object."
