1990 evinrude 8 hp quit running update

Sorry, couldn't get this up on yesterday's post. If you're interested, check it out 1st 4:43 pm. Took a while, but got it started, will not idle, even with choke. I can keep it running for a bit @ high speeds, but only if I keep revving it up then backing off a bit then repeating. At a steady high speed it just dies out, you can't bring it back by using the primer bulb or the choke. It will start in the idle position with the choke, but immediately quit if I don't rev it up. Same as yesterday, loosen fuel pump cap, fuel comes out when squeezing primer. Pull hose off carburetor, squeeze primer plenty of fuel here too. Fuel tank vent open or closed, no effect. Taking the carb apart and blowing out every part and passage did nothing, but enable me to get it started long enough to get the salt water out of it. Open to suggestions, tools still out. Thanks Jersey Bob

On the spark gap checker it jumped a 7/16" gap, no problem. Don't have a compression tester, but I can't believe it isn't fuel related. Last trip out 2 weeks ago we put 5 1/2 hours on the engine, 1/2 @ wot and 1/2 @ a fast idle with no problems. Engine idled in gear @ 700 rpms for as long es you wanted ( manatee zones ). During the layover, I changed the driveshaft seals and shiftrod o rings. Nothing above the lower unit was touched. Thanks, Jersey Bob.
