I just bought a boat with a 1990 40hp evinrude.after the process of elimination I found my vro is not pumping fuel..I'm going to install a regular fuel pump and mix my gas...my question is can I run a two nipple fuel pump and plug the pulse port in the front of the engine or do I need to run the three nipple pump an use that pulse port in the front of the engine.

Best to do a compression test on the motor first.---------There is a pump available ( 48 hp model ) that bolts right to the port side of the top cylinder.-------Remove pulse port plug and it mounts with 2 screws and a gasket.--Reroute 2 hoses for fuel in and fuel out.-------Plug the pulse port for VRO.------Might not hurt to take the VRO pump apart for inspection before spending coins on a new pump.

I hadnt checked the compression but the motor runs good when you pump fuel in the carbs..as soon as it runs out of fuel in the bowl its not pumping any fresh in.
