" I have a 1990 Evinrude 150 V

" I have a 1990 Evinrude 150 V6 on my houseboat. If it is in reverse more than a couple of minutes, it starts to overheat. It looks like the exhaust is getting sucked into the water pump and is developing an "air lock". Water stops spraying out of the back of the motor - the only way to "fix" it is to stop the engine for approx. 30 seconds. The impeller was replaced by the local dealer but it did not help. Does anyone have any ideas? "

" I think you have already ans

" I think you have already answered your own question. When no water appears to come out of the engine, it is not getting water. Probably due to cavitation from the hull design of the houseboat. Solutions would deal with modifying the hull or possibly making sure the engine is at the proper level on the transom. These are just opinions, and maybe someone out there has experienced a similiar problem "
