"Next boat I am considering ha

"Next boat I am considering has this Evinrude motor, what do I need to know about this year and model, gem or dog or somewhere in between?

Thanks, God bless, Mike."

"Are you sure about that model

"Are you sure about that model number? The "CE" with the model number indicates the engine is a 1989 model, and the 500 indicates 500hp."

"Yeah, I messed that up, it&#3

"Yeah, I messed that up, it's a 50. (I can't imagine a 500hp on a bass boat!) The dealer has the motor listed as a 1990, the boat is and it was a factory pkg. I will have to check into it further. Was there a lot of difference between an '89 and a '90? any major problems, or need to know quirks about either year?
M."

There is no difference between

There is no difference between 89 /90 years except for cosmetics.Motors are often the same for up to 15 years. But that concept is changing however.

These motors had so called &#3

These motors had so called "automatic oil injection " works good when working. The trouble is most people do not realize that the more things you add to a motor the more things there are that need to be checked and maintained. Many motors have been damaged by marginal performance of injection systems.

"This seems to be a universal

"This seems to be a universal consensus. I have heard there is a warning alarm that sounds if the unit is not pushing oil, but that it to is prone to malfunction. I gather whatever motor has one of these units on it, the best thing to do is remove it and pre-mix the gas and oil."
