I ordered a replacement regulator from Boat.net for a 1990 Evinrude 175 35 amp system. p/N 0395204. the replacement part that came has a red wire, 2 yellow and a grey wire coming out of it. the red goes to the starter solenoid, the two yellows, ( stator connection), and grey,(?) go to the terminal board. the original has a fifth wire-purple coming out to the terminal board. I called Boat.net to find out if the replacement was the wrong one and they assured me it was correct and the new replacement was an upgrade and the purple wire wasn't needed. what does the purple wire connect ? and if the new one (with 4 wires) is right one, do I need to run a jumper wire on the terminal board to connect to wire on block where the purple wire from reg/rec connected. OR do I not worry about it because purple wire connection is no longer an issue. thank you, Billy

The new regulator doesn't require the purple wire. Don't worry about it. If it's floating around someplace, just tape it off.
