"So I though I would share this story with you guys as this type of story is usually appreciated. One of the managers at work got a 1990 Cobalt Conurre 223 with a 454 Barvo One free from his neighbor. The boat sat for 12 years. The guy had a black tarp on it and painted the boat black where the tarp did not cover it with a vinyl paint so it wouldn't be an eyesore (he's not right).

So far, I have:

Replaced both trim solenoids and the pump resevoir
Removed the outdrive, replaced mounting seals, and refilled gear oil
Replaced cap, rotor, wires, and plugs
Drained 31 gallons of old gas
Replaced fuel filter, oil filter, and oil
All new speakers and stereo
Primed oil pump before running the first time
Replaced distributor gasket
Replaced impeller housing and impeller

The motor started right up and has been running great. I had it out over the weekend and last week. GPS top speed was 55 mph with 3 people at 4200 rpm with a 23 pitch Mirage prop. Not sure why it won't go higher, but will tackle that in the coming weeks.

I also was able to remove the black paint with MEK, and still need to buff it out. I have included a pic of the boat before removing the paint. It was ugly, but is looking much better. I've even boated 2 walleye so far.

"If you drop to a 21 pitch it

"If you drop to a 21 pitch it will pick up about 3-400 rpms. If you go to a 19 pitch good SS and run it at ~ 4800-5100 rpms you should see a real performance gain. Top end may not get any better.

There is a prop guy and he is online by the name of (HILL) Tennesee or kentucky somewhere I believe and if you have some $$$ for a high end SS prop you may be able to see 60 + mph with that set up. (I would bet 65 mph) I have driven boats with his props and they work very very good!!!

Out of all the standard runabout type boats under 24 foot I feel COBALT is at least a 9 or 10 on a scale of 1 - 10, 10 bieng best. There quality is hard to beat!!

Great STEAL!!!!"

"Kghost: I agree. This boat is awesome. I had it out in 5 footers on Lake Erie over the weekend and it was magnificent. And just from working on it, I appreciate the design of the interior. I've worked on other boats that are a real pain for routine jobs, but this one is nice and easy.

Steve: Here's your after pic, same viewpoint, along with a few others.
