"Any known issues with these motors? Personally, I only know OMC motors. I'm looking at possibly buying this (currently I have a 1990 70HP evinrude)for the extra power. I suspect the weight difference between my motor and this 3 cylinder should be close, not enough to worry about. Was this motor made by Mercury? Are parts readily available (both new and used)? Appreciate input! Thanks in advance."

Most were made by yamaha. As with any motor with the proper care they run well.Parts are still available for most of them. There is no dealer in my area so I don't see many of them in my shop.
Just my two cents worth

"The 90 horse Mariner was always the twin to the 90 horse Merc (just different paint/decals - like johnson/evinrude's of the past).

Powerhead/gears are Yami, the rest is Merc.

The 90 horse 2 stroke (conventional) is one of the very few 2 stroke models (non-DFI) still in production in the U.S.

This particular model is probably, by far, Merc's most popular/successful model in recent history.

Very good motors with an outstanding ignition system - and tons of parts new/used out there.

You won't see a significant performance difference compared to a 70 horse (the 90 in it's detuned version was the 75 horse Merc) - maybe 2 mph or so at top end - and torque will be similar so your hole shot will be about the same.

This is a decent motor, but if you are only considering it for performance improvement over your current, I think you would be disappointed.

You would need to move up to a 125 or a small V6 (135 maybe) before you would actually have the extra power that you would "notice"..."
