"I just acquired this motor for my pontoon. The boat it came off had no instruments on it. About halfway between the motor and the control box, two wires are taped off. One is white/brown tracer and the other black/brown tracer. Any chance these are for the tach and trim gauge? Thanks!"

"These wires are for your trim gauge. You should see a 3 pin plug on the rear of your control box, these are the ones you need for the tach."
