1990 70 hp problem

The problem I have is that the motor will cut out with no warning,normally over 3000 rpm.It is instant,no splutter just dead. To get it going again I have to just touch the key and the motor will start, AFTER I let the key go.
I have cleaned out the carbies,they looked like new (motor has only done 95 hrs from new)
Replaced plugs.
Checked all fuel lines and connectors,replaced filter.
Checked all wires under flywheel ( for fraying,rubbing etc )
Compression is 105 on all cyls.
Is it possible I have a faulty Ignition Switch??
Out of the timer,stator or power pack,does one give more trouble than the other ? :confused:
 
Disconnect the black/yellow wire (kill circuit) from the ignition switch temporarily. If this cures the problem, I'd suspect the ignition switch OR a miswired ignition switch.

NOTE..... With that wire disconnected, it will be impossible to kill the engine via the ignition switch OFF position.

Thanks for that,I will give it a go next week and post my results.
Can I safely disconnect the big red electrical plug near the head and run the motor ?
I know that I will have to start the motor via the solenoid.
 
And how do you intend to stop it?
My suggestion is to use the red lever on the primer solenoid and 'drown' it.
Just use the idle lever at remote when re-starting.
