Took out the boat for a run today. Noticed that the starboard Crusader ran at 160 degrees at slow troll, 180 at 3200 RPM'S and 200 degrees when pegged wide open at 4400 RPM'S. Temperature returned to 180 when I dropped back to 3200 RPM'S. Port engine ran between 160 and 180 throughout all the RPM ranges. Starboard temps seem a little high to me at WOT. There was a little white steam/smoke comming out of starboard exhaust. Any thoughts? What should that temp. be at WOT?

That's what I was thinking. I'll go down to the marina this week and see what the temp. gun shows me. Had the same problem a couple of years ago on the port side. It was late in the season and found barnacles, slime, gunk on the intake screens. I doubt it could have grown that fast again this early in the season. Hate diving under the boat. It's creepy under there. I've only got one eye on what I'm doing and the other looking for "JAWS" coming for lunch.
Thanks for the advise.

1. Verify all temps with an infrared temp gun.

2. If correct, clean out the heat exchanger.

Bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump bump....(think "Jaws" theme)

If water is coming out the exhausts as well as you stated, it must be pumping through okay but... Never hurts to check.

Here's how to do it without going under the boat: Close the seacocks, remove the hoses, and then do a comparison test by opening them briefly. If water shoots in equally, fine; if not...

That's a good idea, never thought of checking the flow from the seacocks. Water flow is good and seems equal visually from both water exhaust ports. Thanks Again,

Ya don't think that "JAWS" would get PO'D at me and try to come through the bottom of the boat to get at me like he did to the "ORCA" do ya?

Seacocks always worry me, when ever I open and close one in the water, I am always worried one will break, with my luck it would break when open :)) I found a new seacock last month I never know about until I was crawling around the engine room. This one is for the sea water intake for the head. It is tight down there and I have to do the snake routine to get around the engine room, not something I do often, I also find some interesting parts too.

As for diving under the boat, the guys working on the community dock told me about a 4' barracuda swimming around and advised me not to allow my dog in the water. The center of the lagoon is supposed to be 50' deep, although I can only confirm 30' but I am still looking for that hole. My concern here is bull sharks, I know they come in and out during the year, although I have not seen one yet. There is a scuba diving company training divers here in the lagoon and they are out 3 maybe 4 times a week and they tell me they have not seen any sharks. I do use a diving service to clean the bottom each month :))

I don't like Bull Sharks either. I see um in Fl. during the winter. I saw yesterday a picture of a 16 foot Great White a hundred yards off the beach in Chatem Mass. That's only about 40 miles from where I'm docked.

I have twin 454 XLis and the STB always runs 10 degrees warmer. Several years ago I read a thread that the engine connected to the hot water tank will run hotter. Over the last two years I have cleaned both heat exchangers but both engines remain the same; STB runs around 180-185 while the PRT runs around 170-175. I still debate the water heater thing, but this seemed to be the consensus at the time.
