"I just bought this motor and it sat in a store on consignment for about a year they figure, they said everything was fine when it came in, I installed it the other day took a bit to get going but after that it ran great however it's not pumping water? We took the hoses off at the thermostats and it's pretty dry in there, I've heard there are some motors that are thermstatically controlled and only pump water when they get hot enough is this true? Should I replace the impeller or might it be the thermostats? Anyhelp would be great. Thanks"

Get a waterpump kit and throw

Get a waterpump kit and throw it in before firing it up again.

If the thermostat housings are dry it's because nothing is getting pumped up to the powerhead.

I went to order the kit but need the serial number. The only one that i can find on the motor is on the tilt bracket and it is ODO32327 when i took this number to the parts store it doesn't jive with anything they have and I can't seem to find a number on the internet anywhere. Do you know what the serial number might be? It's a 1990 mariner 150hp oil injected 2 stroke with a 20inch shaft.

"Your serial is good for a 199

"Your serial is good for a 1991, 150.

The serial is "zero" "D" zero 32327.

Find a new parts store that isn't too lazy to look it up."

"Ok I changed the impellar and

"Ok I changed the impellar and housing and gaskets. Put everything back together and flashed it up, still no water how long should I let it run untill I should see water. Pulled the thermostats off and they were alittle build upish but not to bad, does anyone know what else it might be? Thanks"

"Should see water almost right

"Should see water almost right away.

Could be a clog in the water tube or a blockage in the water channels.

Easiest way to test is pull the lower unit again, jury rig up a garden hose directly to the water tube and see if you get water flow."

"The water tube, you mean the

"The water tube, you mean the litle 1/4" size tube that runs up from the outside of the leg? I get exhaust coming out of the pee line but no water. If I put the impellar in backwards would it correct itself when started? The old one really didn't look that bad, the place I bought it from said it sat for around a year but did spit water fine when they brought it in. Thanks"

Yes I did put the key in and a

Yes I did put the key in and after we pulled the thermostats out and tried it without them in it pumped fine so I worked on them abit and put it back togather and it showed water out of the telltale. It was slow but with more revs it pumped better so I am going to put 2 new thermostats in just to make sure and it should be ok. Thanks for all the help.

great so why buy new stats?tes

great so why buy new stats?test them first -boil water throm them in and then put in cold water and see reaction for proper operation they are probably still good and you might save yourself 30 dollars or so
