My motor came with the boat purchased 18 months ago and runs very well but is difficult to start at the first launch. After that it starts first go at the touch of the key-start.
If I use my thumb over the intake port similar to a manual choke it normally starts first attempt upon launching.
I don't normally run it dry at the end of a trip (being a 4-stroke) and I generally notice that it smokes quite a bit after starting.
My marine mechanic says that the auto-choke is working but I have my doubts due to the starting procedure used (thumb.
Can anyone give me a clue about a possible solution to this problem.
Thanks in advance

Hi London marine and thanks for your reply.
Sounds like you are suggesting stale fuel.
After cleaning the carby what if anything would you suggest I do to prevent recurrence?
My motor would not go for more than three months (max) without being started.
Again thanks for your input.

It is the same for all motors-

It is the same for all motors--- Run the fuel out of the carburetor if it is not going to be used for a couple of weeks.
