1989 XR4 has no Giddyup

"I have owned this motor for 15 years now without a single problem. Put it away last fall and fired it up this week, weather is beautiful in GA right now. Motor started fine went to lay the hammer down and it stays at 1500-1600 rpms with going at the blazing rate of 6mph. Will rev up fine in neutral or in gear out of the water, i know thats bad. I rebuilt all three carbs, fuel pump, new plugs, new fuel. Same results.Anyone have any idea here? My next guess is the high speed stator? Thanks in advance for the help."
 
Sounds like it is starving for

Sounds like it is starving for fuel. Check filter or clogged lines. Free running motor takes very little fuel. Here is a good test--take to the lake with air intake removed. Put the hammer down--take a spray bottle with a fuel mixture in it--spray fuel in the carbs and see if it takes off. If it does--it's a fuel problem. If it bogs--it's not fuel--look for another cause besides fuel.

"Stator would have been my first guess. Every day occurance back than. recommend changing the switch box's now too, they are known for blowing up engines from pinging away. i woulden't trust them anymore."
