"1989 OMC. Last time boat was out, had no forward, only reverse. Seemed like major L/U failure, because engine would sometimes die if forward were selected, like the L/U was seized. Changed to my spare L/U. When I removed the prop, I found a rectangular piece of corroded metal wedged behind the prop, into the webbing of the L/U Bearing assy. I drained the oil, no water, no shavings! Pulled propshaft & bearing carrier, gears look perfect. From what I understand, the gear on the rear carrier is forward, then the surace on the clutch facing it looks fine too. Anything else I should check before I just assume the strange hunk of metal behind the prop, and a shift cable issue was causing my problems?"
