Can anyone tell me please if t

Can anyone tell me please if there is a way of telling if I have a newer type ESA unit fitted just by looking?

"On the old style you have a 4

"On the old style you have a 4 wire plug that goes to the switches, from the ESA end (I think) it has a Blue and Black wire plus a Blue or black jumper to give you the 4 pins. On the new one they did away with the overstroke wiring piece so the 4 pin plug just has 2 wires (no jumper) You may still have the overstroke switch in place as there was no to remove it but it's not functional anymore."

"Thanks for that Bob.

"Thanks for that Bob.
Hy Stat, I am referring to the newer Eletronic type that works with Electronic Ignition systems.
Regards Pat"

Am I understanding correctly t

Am I understanding correctly that there is a newer ESA that works with the Pertronix module (without the fix) and eliminates the overstroke switches?

"Marada1...years ago OMC actua

"Marada1...years ago OMC actually brought out an electronic ignition kit which got rid of the points and replaced the ESA with a newer version, the newer version also still worked with points. Part of the redesign inside was to build in an electronic timer that only allows the ESA to be activated for approx 6 or 7 secs and then it times out and disengages (if everything is working ok this shouldn't happen). So when you upgraded your ESA (plug and play) there wasn't wires coming out of it for the overstroke switch anymore just the interrupt switch. Today there is another company building the ESA called CDI/Rapair (Hy Stat mentioned above) that is compatible with electronic ignition (Pertronix) so you don't have to build the little resistor/diode fix to make it work."
