"Hi: I have the above motor with starting problems.I can get the engine to crank (but not start)with all wires removed from the "I" terminal on the ignition switch.Put those wires back on and its dead. If i remove the wires from the positive side of the coil and connect a wire from the coil directly to battery it will crank and start (with the I ignition switch wires off).
Curious, should i read continuity (2 ohms)from the wires
on the positive side of the coil to ground?

If i disconnect the wiring harness plug at the engine i lose that continuity to ground.

Thanks"

"The whole thing sems a bit odd, but I think one of Your engine/wire harness multicontakts is defective.
Pull the plug apart and take two short pieces of cable and uninslate both ends. Next You need a volt/ohm meter. Find out on the engine harness contact which pin goes where (B+, ground, ign (coil-pin) and start (yellow/red start motor))
Put one cable between B+ and ignition, the other as a start key between B+ and start. Does the engine start? To stop, just pull out B+ and ign cable again."
