"ok working on a 1989 searay with a 165 alpha 0ne. b4 the working on the transome I check to see the virbation I was informed this boat had. I had F-N-R smooth. after replacing all bellows, hose, gimbel bearing and the shifter arm at comes in a sierra transome service pack, following the book, I find that I don't have Forward gear. I have N and R but no forward. Tried following the infomation on adjusting the lower shifter cable but I hit a snag. in the book it claim to measure for the 6 inches then turn the brass barrel 4 turns. My mesurerment is just under 6 inches(like 5 7/8) tring to turn the brass barrel I find that the underside of it shows signe that it's pinned ( there is a 1/16 indent on one side) barrel doesn't turn. I tried running the sst tube all the way down on the cable end. With out power and placing the shifter in "F" then spin the prop conter-clock wise I have engaugment of gears. Tring to place the engine into "F" with engine running and I get the infamous skipping sound. The shifting bar is sitting where it needs to sit in the stearndrive the right way. play at the shifting bar it less than .05 thousands. what am I missing?"

set your lower shift cable at

set your lower shift cable at 6" in fwd. and do not adjust it further. any more adjustment is done at the control cable. adjust the control cable (in fwd.) to fit. (this is where your 4 turns comes in) reverse is adjusted by moving the cable in the slot on the shift plate arm.
