"Has anyone done a head gasket replacement on this engine, I'm losing compression on the #3 cylinder and want to check this first. BTW when I first tried to start the motor this season the #3 intake was filled with acorns!"

"Ouch! You'll probsbly need a hone and rings job, not a head gasket--UNLESS you can see ugliness aronnd the head/ block joint, or water is getting in.

"Yes, that model doesn't have a head - it's a headless split-block design. You get at the cylinders by splitting the block at the crankshaft.

What appears to be the head is actually just the water cover. If you pull that you will be looking at the water channels, not the cylinders.

So as Jeff notes, this is a rebuild, not a simple gasket replacement.."
