"after having the boat for two

"after having the boat for two years we've finally got in the water. in idles fine and start to get up on plane and just dosnt make it. it appears the plugs are fouling out and just getting way to much oil. i have read alot posts and have elected to disconnect the oil side of the vro and run mix to see if i still have the same problem. question; how do i keep the temp warning intact even though i unplug the vro harness. secondly, should i replace the old style pulse limiter with the upgrade eventhough i'll be running mix

is it smoking a lot? burning

is it smoking a lot? burning too much oil would cause some bad smoke also.....have you replaced the plugs and tried again? plugs do go bad too! as far as the vro goes....I'm too old school for that kind of stuff. I'm sure I'll learn enough about it when I rebuild my dad's 1999 225 O/B......

"It does smoke. when i run it

"It does smoke. when i run it in a barrel there is an awful lot of oily sludge on the water, more than there should be. it may be an air leak somewhere ossible in the tank at the pick up. or possibly in the carbs somewhere. tomorrow afternoon ill check the compression, although i dont beleive its the cylinders but it doesn't cost anything to check."

"(VRO Pump Conversion To S

"(VRO Pump Conversion To Straight Fuel Pump)
(J. Reeves)

You can convert the VRO pump into a straight fuel pump, eliminating the oil tank and VRO pump warning system, but retain the overheat warning setup by doing the following:

1 - Cut and plug the oil line at the engine so that the oil side of the VRO pump will not draw air into its system. Trace the wires from the back of the VRO to its rubber plug (electrical plug) and disconnect it.

2 - Trace the two wires from the oil tank to the engine, disconnect those two wires, then remove them and the oil tank.

3 - Mix the 50/1 oil in the proper amount with whatever quantity fuel you have. Disconnect the fuel line at the engine. Pump the fuel primer bulb until fuel exits that hose with the tint of whatever oil you used. Reconnect the fuel hose.

That's it. If you want to test the heat warning system to ease your mind, have the key in the on position, then ground out the tan heat sensor wire that you'll find protruding from the cylinder head. The warning horn should sound off.
