I recently bought 1989 basscat with a 1989 200 Johnson on it,,,,,,,,,,,,The guy I bought it from was honest with me and told me up front that he disconnected the VRO and mixed the oil himself,,,,,,,,,,but aalso he disconnected the pump completelty and put a small micro electric pump on it with a toggle switch,,,,,,,,,,,,He said that boat ran good but wanted to load up on idle,,,,,,,,,,,,so I bought it as is ,,,,,,,,,,I brought it home and cleaned old gas out and put new in it,,,,,,,,,,it fired right up so I took it to the water and YES,,,,,,,,,it seem to load up on idle and low speed jets,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but after it got into high speed or WOT,,,,,,,,,it ran great GPS said runnin at 64mph,,,,,,,,,,,,was smooth and no miss at all,,,,,,,,ran it at least 3 miles,,,,,,,,,,,but loads up on idle and mid throttle Im just wondering if pump to much pressure it says per part num it has 4 to 7 psi,,,,,,,,,,,,,I have a factory manual and it says the vro pump has 3psi at 800 but gives no WOT psi................I took the carbs off and inspected but see no issue and tried with a hand pump to see if 4 to 7 would unseat the needle and seat,,,,,,,,,,seem to b able to take it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ANY SUGGESTIONS

Get a factory, VRO or Non-VRO back on the engine, do a full carb re-build on all carbs, check/change thermostats and waterpump.

Why not take the VRO pump that you have apart.----Inspect and repair if needed.------These things are easier to work on then you might think.-------Repair is usually cheaper then buying a new pump.
