"This motor has been a bear.

"This motor has been a bear. This motor ran great first time in the water but alarm went off for overheating. We did a complete new water pump impeller ect. Also replaced the Tstats. Still had the overheat issue and replaced the Water reflectors. Overheat issue now is fixed. We took it out to test and it was bogging down and doesnt run barley at all. We didnt understand. It runs like a champ with the Cover off, as soon as you put it back on, or just set it on top it has no power. We double checked no wires pinched, no tubes being cut or pinched. Brought it back out and same deal. It runs great with the cover off but as soon as its on or even placed over it runs bad. Need Help her or suggestions.

Thanks~!"

exhaust gaskets and or powerhe

exhaust gaskets and or powerhead gasket
it is choking it self out on exhaust fumes

Could you tell me where these

Could you tell me where these are located? We replaced the exhaust gaskets in the lower unit. When you say powerhead gasket do you mean head gasket? We did replace the head gasket when we put in the water deflectors. We used permatex HI tac gasket sealer

Thanks for the picture and the

Thanks for the picture and the update. Just by looking at the location I would assume this is a pretty lengthy project. Should I look at doing this my self or is it time to take a mechanic

"Before you start tearing that

"Before you start tearing that engine apart, check to make sure that someone hasn't plugged up the air intake sections.... under the bottom carburetor at the pan, and usually at the hand grip portion of the engine cover.

Observe the engine running on a flushette (or in the water) closely to see if exhaust fumes, smoke, coloring, are visible. If it exists, you may be able to pinpoint the flaw.

It may be something as simple as a loose exhaust baffle plate cover (large plate between the cylinder heads) caused by loose bolts that are a result of the previous overheating problem."

Joe your the man. I will chec

Joe your the man. I will check this tomorrow evening and report back. Its just odd because it ran good before with cover on but was over heating. I am hoping it is the baffle like you said above.

"Well I dont know what the Cov

"Well I dont know what the Cover had to do with it but I turned one of the coils around due to I thought maybe it was hitting the cover. Replaced plugs, fuel filter and now it bogs down with no power no matter if the cover is on or off. After pulling the plugs to check it looks like the both cyliders on the left bank are not firing, thought maybe a coil was bad but replaced and still same problem. I will have to check compression and spark tonight. I am looking at a bad power pack or something?"

"Check the compression and spa

"Check the compression and spark. What is it on all number cylinders. Standing in back of the engine, facing it, the cylinders are:

2....1

4....3

Could be a loose wire, the pins/sockets in the rubber plugs connectors could have been pushed back (poor or no connection), pinched wire, etc."

"Well It turned out just #4 wa

"Well It turned out just #4 was not geting spark, Turned the COil around and it would get spark. All this turned out to be a pinched wire that the cover was hitting, or a small break in the wire that was jumping arc to the cover when you put it on, and likewise the block when I turned the Coil around. WE heat shrinked around the wire and all is good now. COmpression between 105 and 110 in all. Thanks for all your help"
