Just aquired a 1989 Force motor...started right up but no water came out the cooling holes...is replacing the cooling system (I assume the impellar) difficult? Any advice would be great!

"Joe, fairly simple job (and yes, probably just the impeller), but as always a repair/tune-up manual is priceless (and available through this site for a few bucks).

Besides, Force motors haven't been made for coming up on 10 years now and you may or may not be able to find someone to work on them - so you may have to bend a couple of wrenches yourself if you plan on keeping it

It's always a good idea to also change the spark plugs and gear oil in the lower unit when you get a motor that is "new to you" even though it started up fine. The impeller is usually replaced every second year as a preventative measure (or earlier if it fails).

Most tune-up/general maintenace parts you need will still be available from either a Merc dealer or aftermarket retailer (Check this site too for Sierra parts - they work the same and are more economical than OEM)...

Force was the old Chrysler outboard division that was bought by Bayliner and then the whole shebang was bought by Brunswick in 1986 and given to Merc. So you have a Merc built motor made with Chrysler parts/designs - a bit of an orphan, but good motors if they work
