I'm having problems with my motor. We are the original owners. The boat has maybe been used an average of 10 times a year since we bought it in 1989. So the motor has got really low hours on it for it's age. It's been winterized properly every year and well maintained.
This year when I took it out on the lake I had some problems. It still fires up, runs, idles great. We'll get it planed out and it will run fine for a few minutes and then it bogs down and loses all power. If I push in the key for the choke when it does this, it powers up and runs fine again. Obviously holding the key in the whole time is not an enjoyable way to spend my day on the lake. Plus I'm running extra lean when doing that.
I took it to our local outboard mechanic and it tests for good spark and compression on every cylinder. It really seems like the engine is starved for fuel.
My older brother replaced the gas line coming from the built in gas tank last year and I'm wondering if he could have screwed something up where it's not getting good gas flow anymore. The new hose is quite a bit longer than the old one.
Also where is the in-line fuel filter for this engine and could that be the problem? And is there some sort of filter in the tank that could be clogged and blocking fuel.
The engine runs fine when not under load. But when we get up to speed, it seems that after a few minutes it just stops getting gas.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated."
