"Gotta 70 hp 3 cylinder Evinrude on my 14ft runabout boat and Its been a learning process fixing all thats wrong with it. Mainly poor previous maintence and crappy mechanical work. It wouldnt hold prime or start well, but after fixing some apparent fuel leaks it holds prime and starts ok.
The problems I am having now are low range and mid range rpms, the motor runs rough, vibrates/shakes the windsheld and stuff. When I go from IDLE to IDLE in GEAR it wont stay running, the rpms will slowly drop and it will quit. It was idleing fine but now It loads up and wants to shut off after a few mins of idle in gear.
The compression is good, 125 across all. Good spark, new Champion plugs gapped at 0.30.
Sometimes, mainly when heavyly loaded or WOT for a while it will sound the alarm and act like a rev limiter at 2800-3200 rpm, lot allowing the motor to go rev up. I can shut it down for a min and crank it back up and its fine. But it will do it again a few minutes later. It pees strong but I havent checked the Thermostat.
Any suggestions? Maybe rebuilding the carbs, checking the low/mid speed jets? Make sure the floats are set properly? I am going to check the timing tomorrow, it may be advanced?
