"Folks,

Today my Tach needl

"Folks,

Today my Tach needle started to jump all over the place after a few hours on the water. My fishfinder also had a low current warning pop up a few times.

I believe my regulator/rectifier to be at fault, but can not get outside due to poor weather to look at it. I can order a new OMC part # 583519 for 100 bucks. It appears the original part is still on the boat.

Am I on the right track here w/o testing the amps etc.

Do you need to remove the flywheel to get this out or is it a simple process?"

"Dont replace parts w/o testin

"Dont replace parts w/o testing grounds lose wires on the battery battery voltage a manual is like a bible to a mechanic nobody knows all the answers without one testing components you ll need a voa meter and a 12 volt test light and preferably a oem manual/seloc to follow. most often its grounds that are the culprit or corrosion at the batt terminals. Stopping the flow of current from + to neg thereby causing a short ,ground,or open circuit before the tack.the stator which creates electricity by magnets passing by a winding is also tested both running/not otherwise testing to see if theres rust covering the magnets where electricty is produced to charge battery run lighting etc so go with a systematic approach to repair the least expensive first. Hope this helps you."
