1989 60HP Water Pump

Hello all, noobie here. I noticed there wasn't any pee during idle however a strong stream at WOT. I struggled through replacing the water pump. After all was put back together, I realized I left out a rather large oring, small oring, and two yellow washers or I should say they came with the kit however I did not see any of these components during removal. I tried out the pump using muffs and have the same problem of no pee. Do I need to installk the components that I left out anbd if so where do they go? The large oring is the same sime as the impeller so I believe it either goes above or below the plate/gasket. The other components I haven't a clue.

have the same problem of no pee.

Pull the hose off the engine and see if water shoots out. If it does then a spider built a nest in the hose.

If you used a generic impeller kit there may have been extra parts.

The orange ring's belong to the Alpha I/O. They should not be in the 60 HP kit. Are you sure you have the right kit? The two yellow washers go to the gear oil drain plugs. Part # 46-77177A3 is the kit.
When you assamble the pump the rubber vane curl's into the lid clockwise only. (Right rotation engine.) Push down on the lid and turn the shaft to set the impeller the right way. There are 2 gaskets above and below the plate and that is all that it in there.

Thanks for the response. In regards to the hose being blocked, I would agree howver at WOT there is a stong stream.I am looking at the box for the new water pump kit and it is quicksilver 46-77177A3. As I mentioned the new extra parts threw me. I will pull off the lower unit and look at the impeller direction. BTW, where does the large rubber bushing go? Also, how do I change the lower unit oil. I see one sloted screw that is marked vent and nothing else. Again thanks to all that responded. BTW... Doesn't the vanes change direction when runnbing in reverse? Just curious?

how do I change the lower unit oil.

Go to YOUTUBE and search for servicing Mercury outboard motors. Also search for changing Merc 70 hp waterpump. Watch several of them for more info.

where does the large rubber bushing go?
What bushing? Watch the videos on YOUTUBE; they'll teach you alot.

[QUOTEDoesn't the vanes change direction when runnbing in reverse? ][/QUOTE] No

You bought the right kit if the engine SN falls between the numbers below.

50/60 2-cycle (3 cylinder) USA 6428681-0D000749

You can get a factory manual for the engine cheap on eBay.
