"Hello all!! I'm new to the group.
I am in possession of my father's Bass Buggy. It has not seen water since he died 8 years ago. My mother has getting the urge to take her 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren on frequent fishing trips now. She hasn't really wanted to go since my father died but now she's decided it is time for her to get back on the water. I am the most electrically and mechanically inclined in the family so I am faced with the task of getting the boat seaworthy or lakeworthy as the case may be. And of course 5 of my mother's grandchildren are my offspring.

So far I have welded Frame support on the trailer where it was rusted. I have replaced all of the lights and wiring on the trailer. Replaced the tongue jack, replaced wiring on the boat itself where mice had chewed through the coating and caused shorts and repaired the power tilt.

Now for the engine. I was getting spark from only one coil (the one with the green/white wire). I have done the test recommended in the Solec repair manual and all coils test good. So then I swapped the positive terminal wires on two coils (plugs out plug wires off). I get fire from the coil with the green and white wire. Whichever coil I connect the green/white wire to will fire and the other two will not. I have done this test on all three coils and conclude that all three coils are good. I have also swapped the incoming wires on the switchbox. When I do this the spark does not change to another coil. No matter which hot lead I connect to the incoming side of the switchbox the spark on the outgoing side remains the same. So, I concluded that all incoming wires to the switchbox are working properly. If I can prove that all incoming wires are delivering fire and only one outgoing wire is sending fire then can I assume that the switchbox is the culprit?
Where would be the best place to purchase this item? I'll bet it will be Marine Engine The price seems to be reasonable.
Is there anything that I am missing here?
Have I done enough tests to prove the switchbox is bad?

Oh, Thanks to all the folks who had already answered my testing questions. They had been asked and answered before. Gotta love the search tool here.

My dad used to say that he threw more fish back out of his boat than most people will ever catch in theirs.

"CJ,

I think that the switchbox is definitely the problem. You won't find much price variance for this item.

"Thanks Tony. I was fairly sure that the switchbox was the problem. I just needed confirmation from someone with more experience than myself.

Thanks again,

Switchbox came in. Put it in and got fire on all three. Cleaned the old gas out of the tank and engine. Primed it with new gas and hit the key. Started right up after the gas got flowing. I still need to replace the plug wires, battery and battery cables. The wires are dry and cracking and the battery is won't take a charge. It runs pretty good considering it has beed sitting for about 9 years. After it warmed up I could turn it off and just bump the key to start it. My six year old son is ready to go to the lake right NOW.

So, what failure should I prepare for in a boat that has sat for nine years.
I think the water pump is working good. It doesn't have the small hole where the water comes out. It has a rectangle opening and it spatters water out when on the ear muffs. Is this normal? How much flow of water should I see comming out of the engine?
What is the oil to gas ratio for this engine? I think it is 32:1 but not sure. The auto mixer on the tank does not work."
