I have a 1989 Johnson 50 HP Model # j50tlcec that has just started overcharging. I checked the battery and its good. Looked up the ignition system diagram and it shows a rectifier but no regulator. Does this engine use a regulator to limit the amount of charge to the battery or
am I missing something?? Any help would be appreciated.

It's an unregulated system. You may want to turn the boat lites on when running and make sure you have a large capacity battery. Also check all of the battey connections for being clean and tight.

Cleaned the batt connections and the pos/neg leads and found a loose con at the tach. I ran it on the muffs and it only got up 2 about 13.75 on the volt gauge so I think that might have cured it. I`ll take it out 2 the lake for a real acid test tomorrow. Thanks for your help and have a good Turkey day !!
