My 3.0 has water in the oil I

My 3.0 has water in the oil I have a water leak in what i suspect the rear soft plugs.Could this cause water in the oil?.Also would it be easier to replace the engine or rebuild.Michigan motorz has one for around 1899.00.The boat is in good shape.Am I able to pull the motor without pulling the outdrive off the boat.Boat mechanicing is new to me. Thanks.
 
You can't pull the engine

You can't pull the engine without taking the drive off unless you can move the engine forward enough to clear the drive shaft. Even then you still need to pull the drive to do an engine alignment when you put the engine back in.
