Hello,
Looking for some advice or thoughts on pre-mixing my gas or trusting the oil injection system? I have read that the gear driving the oil pump is plastic and prone to fail? When I asked a local dealer about this he said he has seen more problems from people not mixing their gas correctly than he has seen oil pump failures. Something that is a little differnt about this engine is it is almost brand new? I bought it new in 1990 but never put it in service. The engine sat in a heated storage from 1990 till 2012. The engine now has 50 hours run time on it. now that I am getting some use out of it I would like to give it the best chance for a long life.
Thanks, Davidf

Hi. I have the 91 version of the same motor. Carb not EFI 280 hours on it

i have a similar dilemma. My low oil alarm has been going off, but I know it's getting oil. A lot of guys say remove it, but dealer says service the oil system front to back and leave in place.

I have a built in tank, dealer claims the same as yours on the problems due to incorrect mixing and particularly with a built in tank as it may not mix properly....

i have decided to test and service oil system and not remove, let me know what you decide.

Keithm18, For now I have left the oiling system stock. I think I will have another talk with the dealer as I would hate for something to happen to this motor. I bought it new in the spring of 1990 and then my plans changed. The motor ended up sitting in my heated shop until the spring of 2012. I took it to the dealer and had the change it from a 20 to a 25 inch shaft. They were amazed at one that old and had never been fired. So in this case it really does have less than 50 hours on it.
