1989 200hp Johnson no power

My 1989 200hp Johnson lacks power. Its slow coming out of the hole and only gets to about 3500 rpm when on plane. It starts and idles well and will rev when not under load. What would cause this or what should I start checking to fix this? Thanks

Compression first .
Checked compression. All cylinders are between 75-80 psi. It's a GT200. The book I have says they should be no less than 100 but other places I've read says the GT motors had lower compression. Any comments here as to whether this is good or bad for this motor? If that's low what would cause all 6 to be low? If that's acceptable, what would you check next to troubleshoot the power issue under load? Thanks

When did this problem begin? Did you check for spark on all cylinders?
I did check for spark and it's getting fire to all 6.

I first noticed the problem when I took it out after it sat for a while. I've tinkered with it off and on for a couple years now because I don't get to use it that much but I've been able to take it out more lately and would really like to figure out the problem.

I've had the carbs cleaned but other than that just tried to check the basics (compression, spark). Nothing's really adding up in my feeble mind right now.

What book says that the GT motors have lower compression?----What boat ?----Pitch of the prop ?-----Head gaskets are cheap.----Pull one of the heads and have a look in there.----Running with a tested VRO or mixing 50:1 in the tank?

Might try that compression gauge on another motor, maybe it reads low. Or try another gauge. Problem after storage? How long was it stored? Is it advancing to full throttle. Throttle cables can sometimes fail.

No book, just some other forums I've read that says the GT is lower compression. But I haven't found anywhere that says exactly what it should be for that motor so I don't know if my readings are good or bad. Just strange that they are all low.
It's a 19ft ranger, not sure the prop pitch. It has pushed the boat fine in the past and I haven't changed the prop. It's just lacking the power it used to have now.
I am running the VRO that's been on it since I got the boat. It has not been tested. Would a problem with this cause a lack in power? I can certainly remove it and mix my gas if that is a possibility.
Thanks!

It had been sitting/stored for 1.5 - 2 years probably. I will check the throttle cable. I haven't checked that. Thanks!

Stored with non oxy - "recreational fuel"? Ethanol has put a many VRO in the scrap heap....sometimes motors go right with them. It's not welcome in some states.... Including Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Texas. It's certainly not used by this old mechanic either.

Yes, it did have ethanol fuel in it. I realize it's not good for them but until recently it was hard to find the non-ethanol fuel where I live. Would you suspect a problem with the fuel lines, bulb, etc? Should I remove the oil injection system and test with mixed gas? What do think the ethanol would have damaged to cause the loss of power? Thanks!

Have you completely drained the fuel system and refilled with fresh, non-ethanol fuel? If this boat sat with ethanol containing gas in the tank for almost 2 years you likely have water and gunk in the entire fuel system. Your lack of power could just be your engine trying to burn fuel with severely diminished quality.

Better the one at 30# .
Definitely new fuel and tank drain .
