"Not that I can tell, but it is pretty breezy in that area when the motor is spinning. The hole is definitely right through the casting. I hadn't noticed before. Maybe it was plugged up and painted over. Think I recall wiping a little oil off the top of the motor before and wondering how it would have got there.

I also have not been able to get the same RPM/top speed out of this motor as the original."

"if its brand new or just rebuilt you need a break-in period to allow the rings to seat.

can you feel any pressure, pulse, or sucktion if you stick your finger over the hole while running?"

"It was broken in last summer. I have another boat so I have just been tinkering with this one when I get the chance.

I have gone over everything several times. Corrected a few things that were not put together right after a previous rebuild, but it is still not 100%.

Probably wouldn't have noticed the hole if I hadn't been looking at it from a particular angle and actually wearing my reading glasses for a change.

Don't think I will be putting my fingers in that area when the flywheel is spinning as I don't want to upset my insurance company.

Looks like that hole lines up with the crank weight area.

Any clues as to how it would get there and what damage could it cause or be caused by?

Thanks"

"On taking a second look this weekend, I think it is continuous with the top bolt hole for the case halves. Looks like the tip of a drill just broke through in that spot."

glad to know it wasnt somethin

glad to know it wasnt something major.....maybe where they ran a tap through all the threads during rebuild.
