1989 150hp constant beeping

I just bought a 1988 Ranger 354V. First trip out all was fine. Next time out it started a constant beeping as soon as i turned the key and will not stop until I turn the key off. What kind of alarm is this and what can I check? Any help.
 
Don't know your particular engine, but the typical beep warnings are: Continuous: beep means engine too hot. Short-shorts: getting low on oil. (some reserve left until dry... 2 stroke)
