1989 150 XR4 Black Max Problem

First time here. My 150 XR4 goes dead when put in gear. Especially after a short run up the lake. Always have to start with hi throttle and try to jerk back in gear quickly at throttle to keep motor from dying. Motor runs fine otherwise. Just a nuisance every time you stop and start again. When coming to a stop and pulling into neutral it will usually die then instead of idling.
Hope someone can help with this. Put up with this problem for the past two seasons and really getting old.

Check your reeds... if it won't idle!

They run amazingly well on 5 of 6 cylinders.-----Start with a compression test.----Check for spark on all 6 leads.
