"I have a 1988 100 HP Mercury

"I have a 1988 100 HP Mercury outboard. I have replaced the rectifier, stator, trigger, switch box, ignition coils, spark plug wire and spark plugs and I still cannot get a spark on any of the 4 cylinders. I have ran all the tests on the rectifier, stator, trigger and swichbox that CDI provided and they all are within range. I noticed in one of the tests provided by CDI it states that you should disconnect the yellow wires from the stator to the rectifier and try to fire the engine. I did this and I got it to fire, so I replaced the rectifier and I still have the same issue. Does anyone have an idea on where to go next or what to do? I have checked all wires and voltage from the battery and everything is receiving the correct voltage. I also checked the kill switch wire and still cannot get any spark or the engine to fire."

"Did you check the ignition sw

"Did you check the ignition switch? Disconnect the engine harness and crank the engine at the solonoid. If you get spark, the ignition switch is usually the culprit."

"I know there is power going t

"I know there is power going to the switch, becasue the engine will crank but will not fire. I am going to get out the manual tonight and test the switch and the remote control. How do you crank the engine at the solenoid?"

"The ignition does not operate

"The ignition does not operate on current from the switch. It generates its own electricity. The switch turns the engine off by grounding the black/yellow stripe wire that you see at the switchbox.

You can either disconnect that wire and crank ,or disconnect the harness and crank at the solonoid, by jumping from the positive battery cable at the solonoid to the yellow/orange stripe wire on the solonoid.

Separating the harness plug takes the ignition switch out of the picture, but you should also have a mercury switch near the switchbox which prevents you from starting when the engine is in the raised position. Disconnecting the wire at the switchbox will then take the mercury switch out of the picture. Sometimes on older engines this switch has already been disconnected."
