hello all, im a new boater and have a question on my starter.
i have a 1988 classic fifty 45hp Mercury and something i have noticed is my starter will
turn slightly every time you start the engine until the point where it will ground itself
out on the cover. all bolts the i have tried to tighten still don't take care of it wanting to turn,
is there something else the holds this starter that i haven't seen???
Thanks!

off hand i do not, and im at work now.
i looked at a diagram of the engine and all its parts and from what i see
everything looks ok. i will try to get a picture and try to post when i can,
thank you for responding!

????---What------To me he is saying the starter does not appear to be clamping in place properly and is turning till it shorts on the cover.

thank you fastjeff but RACERONE has it correct.
the starter itself works fine, but for some reason that i have not
figured out yet is that their is a lot of torque upon starting and when this happens,
the body of the starter turns slightly every time upon starting till it will make its way
to the metal cover causing a direct short.
but i do appreciate your response!!!
