I just purchased this unit having a problem trying to find where a small black hose coming out of lower unit is for. Hose is about 1/8" dia. and 10" long
I can't see where it would go into the upper unit. Can somebody help me with this?

a picture would help, but if you mean a small hose that comes up in front of the shift shaft on the leading edge of the lower unit, that is a speedometer tube. Maybe your motor doesn't use it. There should also be a very small hole in the lower unit on the leading edge where water will enter and go up in that tube. If you don't use it, remove the tube and fill the hole in the front of the lower unit with JB weld. I had the same situation when I replaced my L/U.

HA mine had the same tube, I did not know what it was, I thought it was a vent or something so I bought and installed a speedo pitot kit and then found the pitot was built into the motor, how clever that is

thanks for the imformation, if I understand you right it will not hurt to run this engine with tube where it is,it just looks a little out of place.
